Purple Orchid Cake

Click the picture to enlarge.
You can't tell from the picture, but this cake was a monster and weighed more than me!  (I WISH!)  It's an 18", 15" and 12" cake stacked.  Right before the cake had to be done, I realized I didn't have enough Satin Ice fondant to cover the entire thing.  So, with a 40% coupon in hand, I ran to Michael's and bought Wilton's pre-made boxed fondant.  Boy was I wrong to do that.  Never, ever, will I buy that stuff again!  Anyway, even with the fondant disaster and some cracking fondant, the cake came out beautiful.  The hand painted orchids and simple branches added elegance to it.  Now, if only it weren't so heavy...

Baby Boy Baptism Cake

This cake was made from a 3/4 sheet cake and a 1/2  sheet cake stacked on top of one another.  The color scheme was baby blue, warm brown and pearl white.  The cake features a continuous quilted pattern, which at every corner has a baby blue pearl. The cross is made of warm brown gumpaste decorated with baby blue squares.  The top of the cake was covered in a thin layer of baby blue fondant, then was covered with hand cut 'JAE' for the boys initials.

Super Mario Themed Cake

Click picture to enlarge.
I had a lot of fun with this cake.  I was told to make a Super Mario themed cake and to just go crazy with it, and this is what I came up with.

Mario is made of edible paper, as well as the 'Happy Birthday Matteo' sign.  Along the sides I cut out hills with different shades of green gumpaste.  I then made blocks in brown and yellow and placed them randomly along the top to look like a Mario level.  I also made the flowers that are in the game.  I threw in some clouds, stars and mushrooms and wahla!  A Super Mario cake!

Grocery Bag Cake

Oh man, this cake is back to haunt me!  It gave me so many problems that I didn't even want to post it!

The food pieces went very smoothly.  They include a chicken leg, carrot, apple, sausage, pickle, loaf of bread, cupcake, personal pizza, grapes and a pork chop.  Every piece is made up of rice cereal treats then covered in fondant and painted.

The bag is where my trouble began.  It was the first time that I worked with chocolate fondant.  The second I opened the pail I got the strongest smell of chocolate I could ever imagine.  I'm a chocolate lover, and it was even too much for me!  Immediately I realized the brown was way too dark to be a brown grocery bag, so I added white to it.  After I was satisfied with the color, I set it aside and worked on other things.  I went back to it, and the brown had taken over!  It was back to its original color.  So, I added even more white.  Lets just say, that didn't work either!  Although the bag is too dark of a brown, I'm still proud of this cake.

Baby Butt Cake

I went into work and was told I had to do a baby butt cake.  I said to myself "Who would want to cut into a butt and eat it?!".  After I put my crazy thoughts aside, I got to work.  The customer didn't know if the baby was a boy or girl so I had to use gender neutral colors.  Brown, yellow, tan and baby green.  The babys butt and legs are made up of rice cereal treats and covered in fondant.  The feet are made entirely of fondant as well as the blanket on top of the babys butt.  The decorations along the bottom of the cake are made of gumpaste.  After this cake was finished, I fell in love.  I didn't want to give it up!
