Racing Themed Kids Birthday Cake

Click the picture to enlarge.
The cake shown is meant to be themed after Cars, the animated kids film.  The customer was to put a Lightning Mcqueen toy on top to finish the look.

This cake is made up of a 14" round and an 8" round stacked.  The racing stripe pattern was made by cutting out a white square, then decorated with small black squares.  The little black circles along the bottom of the 8" cake are mini wheels.

Skull Princess First Birthday Cake!

I just love, love, love this cake!  This is actually my first ever topsy turvy cake without using styrofoam!  Yay me!

The cake consists of a 12", 10" and 8" stacked on top of each other and cut to look 'turvy'.  To create that effect, I slanted the top of each cake, then cut out a hole where the next layer would fit.  Confusing, I know...

The colors and theme are amazing.  Hot pink and black.  Skulls and polka dots.  Crowns and zebra!  What else could you ask for?!

Lightning McQueen Cake!

After making this cake, I've officially stepped down from sculpting!  Haha, just kidding. It was a pain in the butt though!

I've never really made a sculpted cake before this Lightning McQueen one.  It took my a little while to get his shape to the point where I felt he was recognizable.  After all was said and done, I thought the shape came out great, but his color is a little off.  I think it's a little too dark.  All and all, it's not a complete disaster!

Spongebob Cake

Who lives in a pineapple under the sea?  Spongebob Squarepants!  Made this cake for a friend, of a friend.  When I was first told I had to do a Spongebob cake I said to myself "Easy.. it'll take me an hour!"  Yeah, okay.  I forgot how detailed Spongebob really was.  Overall, including baking and cooling, it took me 5 hours to do.  I'm pretty happy with how he turned out.  And apparently he was a big hit at the party.  Woohoo.

Designer Logo Cake

How does that song go?
Gucci, Louis, Fendi I wear them cause I'm pretty
Yeah, that's what this cake was all about!  It featured a bunch of designer logos, from Prada, to Juicy, to Christian Louboutin!  This cake also featured a 100% edible shoe.  It was made from gumpaste, which was then painted and sparkled!  And the shoe is of course a Chrisitan Louboutin!  Too bad I can't afford the designer stuff!

Fangtasia Cake (True Blood)

Calling all True Blood fans! Calling all True Blood fans! So, as I'm sure most of YOU are, I'm a HUGE True Blood fan. My sister and I have a party practically every Sunday to celebrate. While planning our usual Sunday party, I decided that I wanted to make a cake in honor of our favorite show. My favorite character is Eric... siiggghhhh! Isn't he dreamy?... Okay, back to planet earth now! To show my love for Eric, I thought I would make a Fangtasia cake as well as a TruBlood bottle! Yaaah!

Cake Specifics:
  • Was carved from a 18"x12" cake pan.
  • Red velvet cake with cream cheese icing.
  • Covered in black fondant.
  • Decorated with hand cut Fangtasia sign.
  • Bottle is made from rice cereal treats and covered in red fondant.
  • All decorations on bottle are hand cut.
This cake turned out to be a little more time consuming than planned. The bottle gave me nothing but problems from the beginning. BUT! Now that I know where I went wrong, I can bang one out pretty quickly. All in all, this is one of my favorites, but I may be a little biased.
